Travellers Choice is pleased to announce that more than 75% of all its members have now completed Tourism Australia’s Aussie Specialist Program, putting the award-winning group in a strong position to capitalise on an expected surge in domestic holiday bookings.
Managing Director Christian Hunter says Travellers Choice members recognise that domestic tourism expertise is going to be vital if travel retailers are to benefit from Australia’s emergence from the COVID-19 shutdown.
“Travel consultants will, however, need more than just excellent knowledge of domestic destinations and experiences,” says Hunter.
“They will also need strong and trusted relationships with their local communities and I’m pleased to say our members are already seeing loyal customers express a desire to support their locally-owned travel businesses.
“In addition, agents will need to entice customers with genuinely attractive domestic deals, and that is where our group’s recent investment in unique technology will pay dividends.”
Earlier this year, Travellers Choice’s rolled out a new online booking tool to its members’ individual websites, which allows customers to access domestic accommodation at prices that match or beat major online travel agencies (OTAs). In addition, customers can at any stage hit ‘pause’ and ask their consultant to complete the booking, or simply provide advice, solve minor issues or add additional components.
“We all know Australians holidaying at home are more likely to book their accommodation direct or through an OTA, but the combination of competitive online rates and unrivalled off-line service means our members are set to share in this business,” says Hunter.
