Tasmania's Wynyard Football Club recently found a special way to thank Travellers Choice member and life-long footy tragic Kathy Granger for all her wonderful support over the years.
As part of its efforts to raise the profile of the women's game, the club decided to name a special match after Kathy, who has been involved in the club for more than two decades. The club also bought a $250 travel voucher from Kathy's agency Burnie Travelcentre to use a prize for the best player.
Burnie Travelcentre has been an official sponsor of Wynyard Football Club for the past nine years and Kathy has personally served as everything from secretary, treasurer and vice president to scoreboard attendant, team manager and kiosk co-ordinator.
"The only thing I haven't actually done is play," she says.
"The president said the club wanted to give something back to me and Burnie Travelcentre, and to recognise me as a role model for our young women players. I spoke to the girls about my work as a volunteer and my travel business, and then presented the travel voucher to the ‘best on ground’ player."
